History of Eagle Lake
In 1839, Major Hastings Strickland and his soldiers encamped on the lake's shore during operations toward Maine's northeastern border, naming it Eagle Lake after observing numerous white-headed eagles flying overhead. The area saw its first permanent settlements in 1840, established by Sefroi Nadeau and Richard Woods. It went on to be organized as a plantation in 1856, and in 1911, Eagle Lake was officially incorporated as a town.
Years later, during World War II, the community showed its dedication when one-quarter of Eagle Lake's population served in uniform or worked directly in war effort operations.
