Golf in Aroostook County offers players a remarkable variety of landscapes and heritage. In Presque Isle, the Presque Isle Country Club was founded in 1957 as an 18-hole championship facility at 35 Parkhurst Siding Road, playing to par 72 over more than 6,700 yards. It hosts the Spudland Open, an amateur tournament held for over 50 years that stands as the largest golf tournament in the county, as well as the annual Aroostook House of Comfort Golf Classic scramble to support inpatient hospice care. Nearby in Mars Hill, the Mars Hill Country Club at 75 Country Club Road opened in 1991 as a nine-hole course and expanded to 18 holes in 2000. Winding through hardwood stands and small ponds at the base of Mars Hill Mountain, this par-72 course features a notable par-3 sixth hole where golfers tee off from roughly 160 vertical feet above the green.

Along the Canada–United States border in Fort Fairfield, Aroostook Valley Country Club presents a unique international layout overlooking the Aroostook River valley. Founded in 1929, its parking lot and pro shop sit in Maine, while golfers hit tee shots across the boundary toward Canadian territory, with the clubhouse and course located in Canada. Further north, the Caribou Country Club along New Sweden Road opened in the early 1970s with a 9-hole, par-36 regulation layout designed by architect Geoffrey S. Cornish. Tree-lined fairways carved into the countryside often yield sightings of moose, deer, and partridge, and the club hosts both the annual Cary Classic and the Caribou Cup, an intra-club event using a 6-6-6 format of best ball, alternate shot, and scramble play. Additional northern venues include the 9-hole Fort Kent Golf Club on Saint John Road in the St. John Valley and Limestone Country Club on West Gate Road, an architect-designed 9-hole course opened in 1961 that measures 3,370 yards as one of the longest nine-hole tracks in Maine.

Southern and western reaches of the county feature courses closely tied to local waters. In Island Falls, the Walker family created Va-Jo-Wa Golf Club on former dairy farmland along Pleasant Lake in 1965, expanding it in 1988 into an 18-hole, par-71 course at 142 Walker Settlement Road. Its front nine routes through a lakeside valley, while the elevated back nine sits on a plateau offering distant views toward Mount Katahdin. By Nickerson Lake, Houlton Community Golf Course in New Limerick dates back to the early 1900s, presenting rolling fairways and elevated greens across a 9-hole, 2,800-yard layout that can also be played as 18 holes using alternate tee boxes. Va-Jo-Wa and Houlton both serve as venues for the annual multi-course County Open tournament. To the west in the North Maine Woods region, Portage Hills Country Club at 98 Country Club Avenue provides a 9-hole, par-37 course measuring 3,268 yards to round out the county's public fairways.
